Training options

E-learning

Whatever the subject matter, distance learning is now the flexible learning choice that has proved its worth. It provides a modern alternative to traditional learning and is an effective option for organisations with specific training needs.

DL or ODL ?

In the knowledge that the terminology employed may differ depending on the area in which you operate, we thought it would be useful to make a distinction between these two terms, which are wrongly often considered to be the same thing.

The term distance learning (DL) is a generic term used to describe a learning activity that is set without there being any direct contact between the participants. In other words, any training activity that does not require the physical presence of the student can be regarded as distance learning.

The adjective ‘open’ used in the term open distance learning (ODL) makes provision for the inclusion of accessibility and flexibility in the way the teaching is organised, often supported by the use of modern technology that gives learners increased flexibility. The commonly used jargon is ELS (Electronic Learning Systems).

The ODL method favoured by EducExpert consists of learning via the internet (e-learning). The word ‘open’ refers to the availability of a self-teaching space that the learner can go to whenever he has an internet connection. In fact, EducExpert has its own online teaching platform. At the cutting edge of modern technology, it is nevertheless extremely simple to use. Please refer to the section headed ‘Teaching platform’ for more information on this subject.

E-learning creates an environment where learning from a professional is made possible thanks to a symbiosis between teaching and modern technology. Multimedia can be used to demonstrate theoretical ideas that it would otherwise be extremely difficult to transmit via traditional teaching methods. The use of animation and narrative aids submerge the learner in an active and stimulating environment that encourages learning.

This union between technology and a modern teaching approach is a guarantee of the growing success of distance learning, placing the learner at the centre of the learning process, whilst at the same time making sure that he is never left on his own. The student can learn at his own pace and obtain support when he feels he needs it. As for the companies themselves, they are given highly accurate indicators of the quality of the training that is being dispensed and are able to gauge the progress being made by the students.

The advantages of e-learning are convincing :

  •    Saves time and money
Simplification of the way in which training is given and teaching material is easily updated. No limit on the number of students being taught at the same time.

  •    Less need for travel
Reduced risk and environmental impact. Better work/family balance.

  •    Retention of personnel
Thanks to a simple and realistic teaching approach: skills-based approach.

  •    Stringent monitoring and performance indicators
Statistics and traceability used to assess progress made and knowledge acquired by students.
